Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS)
aka Job Safety Analysis (J.S.A's).
Safe Work Method Statements are a convenient easy to follow way of describing the preventative safety actions to be taken while working.
S.W.M.S's are required by law for certain types of construction work, even if they not, they are a good way of recording the information gained from Risk Management and from OH&S Consultation. S.W.M.S's are mandatory to do any work on federal or state Government Contracts, they are also mandatory when working for major contractors.
richmond river agencies can assist in the writing of SWMS's in Plain English ensuring the organisation remains both productive and legally compliant. SWMS's can become an integral part of your companies OH&S Management System (OHSMS). They are proof positive that your organisation has been through the steps of Risk Management and OH&S Consultation.
The OH&S Act and the OH&S Regulation require employers and employees identify and discover the hazards in the workplace, decide how important they are by assessing the risk and then effectively managing those hazards by either eliminating the hazard or if not reasonably practical to control the hazard. These legal requirements are part of the SWMS process and can form part of a legal defence against an OH&S prosecution.
