Auditing

Auditing is verifying compliance to a standard. The standard can be simple or complex. The primary standards for an Occupational Health & Safety Management System (OHSMS) in Australia are the standards AS4801/4804 2001.

Auditing seeks to provide verifiable proof that the organisation is complying with a standard or its stated outcomes. To comply with AS4801/4804 2001 the organisation must have a regular Auditing program conducted by a competent person to verify compliance. Organisations must be able to demonstrate they comply with AS4801/4804 2001 to successfully tender for any work on a federal or state Government Contract. Major contractors may require proof of compliance before awarding contracts.
